Sherabo Organics’ Premium Organic Shea Butter is ethically sourced from Uganda. Shea trees grow widely and naturally in the wild savannah belt of Africa. However, the Nilotica subspecies of the Shea tree (Vitellaria Nilotica), subspecies is found ONLY in Northern Uganda, and South Sudan in the river Nile basin.
For a decade, Northern Uganda was a war tone region under the Lord resistance army rebels. The war affected almost all families in Northern Uganda living many families devastated and dispersed. Today through small village cooperatives, the women of Northern Uganda are engaged in trade by selling Shea butter. The women care for the Shea trees- they collect the nuts of the fallen fruits which they winnow and sun-dried. The nuts are cold pressed at the mills into emollient, soft butter. Through this trade, mothers are re-building their lives and educating the children.
